Is Web Traffic All That It's Cracked Up To Be In Internet Marketing?

Are you one of the dime a dozen Internet marketers who has taken the theory of more traffic equating to more revenue as the gospel truth, with everything else filed under "Internet business heresy", no questions asked?

This is the way most people think. It seems but logical that more traffic = more sales.

Uh, that doesn't always apply. Targeted web traffic will be the only traffic to use. So what's the big deal with this "targeted" hullabaloo?

It's simple, actually - targeted traffic would mean those visitors of yours who are genuinely interested in your product and service, thus more likely to buy from you at the end of the day.

Then there's non-targeted traffic, which is every other Tom, Dick and Harry who visits your site. These individuals are not interested in buying what you have and, therefore, will not part with their cash for it.

Seriously, do you want to waste your time and money trying to convince people to buy your product when they'd rather be somewhere else on the 'net? Do your research and find out what sites those targeted visitors normally visit. And that way, you can tailor-fit your marketing strategy for these potential customers.

For example, let's say you want to promote a site called thebeachesofaruba.com and one way you will do so is by posting messages in online forums and including a link back to the site in your signature.

You may be considering the possibility of you posting on other forums. You may be afraid of getting the boot on a music forum for "spamming", thus your decision to register on one of the many forums that are centered on Internet marketing. That's a large market, but it is not targeted to your website. There will always be the random Internet marketer who wants a used Fender Strat or Fuzz Face stompbox, but chances are 99% of the people on those Internet marketing forums will be there for - you guessed it, Internet marketing.

It would be inevitably more effective AND efficient to opt for the gardening forums mentioned above, or any other similar topic you may think of. Don't be discouraged just because the forum's membership may be less than the number of digits on both hands and feet. However, it is guaranteed that EVERYBODY on these forums would have some interest in buying your product or availing of your service.

But wait - here are some quick tips on forum posting, before we forget.

Always read the forum rules before posting. If a forum does not allow posting of links, move on to the next.

Do not just write one sentence posts just to get your link posted. That's considered spam.

Show your expertise in your chosen business and write posts with substance and depth. When people notice your reputation growing, they will surely notice your link and give your site a visit sooner or later.
