With so many improvements happening, it's not challenging to see why the search engine, Google battles to remain consistent. The newest update has resulted in 10 results per page becoming decreased to 7 for as many as 18% of web searches. This change took place on August 13th 2012 and of course has resulted in major concern for those affected. This change has left many scratching their heads and asking 'why?' So, why has this modification took place? Having completed a closer analysis of the specific search results we are able to confirm that this trend tends to be affecting just sites that are branded. For example, web searches for the term 'web design' is still resulting in 10 results, however branded web searches for terms such as 'Apple' or 'Sony' are resulting in 7 results.
The results for these brands are mostly related to sites which form part of the brand's network. This means third party branded sites are having to take a back-seat whilst being downgraded from page 1 to page 2. There are many possible reasons for Google completing this change, one being that web users were not clicking on results beyond the 7th. Despite the reasoning behind the changes, this is certain to impact on online stores that rely on the sales of branded products.
