Which Web Marketing Style Will Give You Best Performance Per Dollar

There are different web marketing styles you can employ. SEO is the practice of improving both internal and external aspects of a website in order to increase the traffic it receives from search engines.

One strategy used in website optimization is filling its pages with good quality article. A website that is known to produce quality articles will receive a lot of visitors and will be considered an authority in a particular industry.

For an article to be relevant to a wide variety of search queries, it needs to include frequently searched keyword phrases. Some merchants outsource their article needs. They also have the option to get free articles from various repositories on the Web. These free articles found in online repositories cover multiple subjects.

Online advertising on the other hand is a form of promotional activity which uses the World Wide Web to deliver marketing messages to attract consumers. Advertising messages can be transmitted via web banners, affiliate marketing programs, and e-mails. Social media marketing is the use of various social media to persuade consumers that a particular company, product, or service is worthwhile. One of the strategies employed in this type of Internet marketing is viral advertising.

The selling point of online advertising is related to the "pay for performance" model typical to most strategies in this category. This model can translate to savings on the part of the advertiser, since he or she will only pay for clicks, leads, or actions instead of a flat fee. However, according to a study commissioned by commerce software developer ATG in July 2010, only about 18% of US adults 18 to 34 years old discover products through online ads, compared to the 47% who said search engines, and 29% who said social media platforms. This trend can also be gleamed from other age brackets.

The main disadvantage of SEO is that it takes a lot of time before you get results, but when you're able to achieve a strong online presence, you will receive consistently high web traffic.

Social media marketing, while second only to SEO in terms of generating leads, is said to have better conversion rates because the platform allows for a better brand experience and interaction. From these data, one could get the idea that the SEO and social networking tend to give the best bang for your buck over the long haul. While it is interesting to compare and contrast the differences in click-through rates of these different strategies, it is often more important to build a rich marketing mix to offset the shortcomings of the individual components. By doing so, a company will gradually build an online presence and generate profits from social media and online ad campaigns, while waiting for the website to rank highly on the results page.
