Many people who thought they were understanding what Google wanted were taken by surprise when the Panda update was introduced. Like they have done before, Google brought devastation to the incomes of many good people trying to make a living online. Many of those that were affected by the update did not get a lot of compassion. People that have low-quality sites were the ones that were hit hardest. That was why they were affected. It took some time, but Google finally got around to getting rid of a lot of poor quality sites that were cluttering up the Internet. One particular evolution in marketing to the IM niche is so many people want absolutely everything spoon fed to them, and that can really present problems at times. Just as a quick example of what we mean, traffic tempest is an area that very many beginners will not have full knowledge about in the first place.
So you can easily see that it really can be dangerous to attempt some strategies until you are completely sure of what you are doing.
We know you want to do well, so just keep in mind that even the following tips will not be all you need to know or should know. That is one aspect of internet business that we love; there is always something more that can be learned. If you do not have a lot of experience, set up all you do with your marketing so you can see the results in some quantitative way.
Keyword stuffing. Ever hear of it? It is one of the oldest tricks in the website industry. Many people do this by accident, yet the purposeful use of keyword stuffing is still going on. Although totally unintentional, it will seem as if you are doing keyword stuffing if you write your content wrong.
One other way is to over-optimize your site when you are thinking that you're doing great on-page SEO. It is possible that Google may accept what you have done, but then again they don't have to. Keyword density is not something that they are interested in it all. The keyword phrase that you are optimizing for, if you use it too many times, will set off red flags which can be detrimental.
Google will not reward you for your bad judgment in purchasing backlinks for SEO purposes. The difference now though is that Panda is turning up the heat on this practice. The Internet is full of high PR backlinks that you can purchase to drive traffic back your website. People that do this are risking their ranking, as well as many other things by purchasing links like this. Consider that any site has to make their services known so they can sell backlinks. These types of websites are often easy for Google to find. And it is not hard to follow the backlink trail that leads to your front door.
One area that perhaps many have not thought much about has to do with duplicate content that is internal to a site. There's a possibility you might have two URLs that are different but send people to the same article. Google will make sure your site will suffer the consequences, whether or not you did it on purpose. It is easier than you think to commit this kind of infraction and especially with blogs. The problem arises with how you name pages and categories. You can be thinking that you are doing something very organized but the net effect is to have two URLs with identical content.
It can be very frustrating dealing with the changes that Google seems to dole out every now and then. There are definite Panda-related mistakes you can easily make with your site. Sadly, Google actually penalizes entire websites just because a few mistakes are made on a couple different pages.
All you can do is plow forward, making necessary changes that must be done keep your site high in the rankings.
